After a long staredown, Bury native Quigg stepped to the front of the stage to take the applause of the crowd.
But his supporters were quickly drowned out by loud boos from Frampton’s travelling army, who erupted when the IBF champion stepped forward to salute them.
Belfast’s Frampton remains the bookmakers’ favourite at 8/13 with Quigg, the WBA regular title holder, at 7/5 and the draw at 22/1.
