Football hipsters rejoice as 'The Octopus' secures a Premier League deal

After a fine season in which his 15 clean sheets helped to secure promotion, the former Spurs keeper commits to three more years.

WATFORD HAVE HANDED Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho ‘The Octopus’ Gomes a three-year deal after securing promotion to the Premier League.

The former Tottenham keeper was signed on a 12-month contract after his release from White Hart Lane at the end of last season.

However, 15 clean sheets in 44 Championship appearances has convinced the Vicarage Road hierarchy to keep Gomes on and he looks set to remain as first choice as Watford compete in the top flight for the first time in almost a decade next term.

Gomes caused controversy earlier on Wednesday by launching a scatching account on his old club, Spurs, advising other players against signing for the north Londoners.

Watford were the first team to confirm their promotion this season, though they were pipped to the top of the league by Bournemouth.
