LIMERICK WOMAN FIONA Doyle has capped off a terrific week in the pool at the World University games with a second medal.

Doyle, based in the University of Calgary, already had a bronze medal to her name after Sunday’s 100 metre breaststroke final, but today went one better in the sprint distance 50 metre breaststroke.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” Doyle said of her newly acquired silver.

“A bit shocked as I haven’t been feeling great the past few days, but to add another medal is fantastic for me and for Team Ireland. I’m really excited for World Championships now, I want to improve my times and work towards the perfect race.”

The 23-year-old touched for home in a time of, 31.09 seconds despite being drawn out wide in lane 8. Doyle finished just behind Ukrainian fastest qualifier Mariia Liver and her own Irish record of 30.93.

With the pool racing now complete in Gwangju, Chris Bryan will splash into the lake tomorrow as he targets the Marathon distance 10 kilometer swim.
