An own goal and a Mark Timlin strike saw the Dublin side clinch the three points.

TWO GOALS IN the final quarter got three points for a fortunate St Patrick’s Athletic against Finn Harps in Ballybofey tonight.

The home side were on top by the midpoint of the second half but an own goal by Packie Mailey on 68 minutes and then a breakaway from Mark Timlin some 10 minutes later sealed the away win.

Harps did create a frantic finish when Kevin McHugh steered home a penalty after Damien McNulty had been fouled by Michael Barker.

The opening goal came after a period of home pressure, but Conan Byrne’s corner for the away side was missed by Harps goalkeeper Richard Brush only to clip Mailey and trundle over the line.

That goal was against the run of play as just four minutes beforehand Ryan Curran of Harps led a breakaway and his shot from the edge of the penalty area cannoned back of the St Pat’s crossbar.

However, 12 minutes from time a long ball up field got Timlin, who is a native of Buncrana, away and he slotted past Brush.

And although McHugh scored from the spot it wasn’t to be for the home side, who saw manager Ollie Horgan sent off in injury time for throwing the ball at Ian Bermingham, the St Pat’s full-back.

The first half was a much quieter affair with Byrne drawing a save from Brush in the first minute and Ethan Boyle lobbing over for Harps.
