Finn Harps hang on to earn a point against Limerick

The Harps did enough to secure a share of the spoils.

Limerick 1
Finn Harps 1

DESPITE A LATE Limerick onslaught, Finn Harps hung on for a point they probably deserved at the Markets Field.

In a game that lacked any real quality in midfield, the breakthrough came from a Freddy Hall mistake.

The goalkeeping battle has been a subplot to Limerick’s season – with the signing of Brendan Clarke adding serious competition for the Bermuda native. Hall’s distribution has been a real point of contention to date and his latest mistake won’t help his case.

With what should have been a routine backpass, Hall made a mess. The Limerick stopped cleared the ball, but only as far as the feet of Caolan McAleer. The Harps winger took a touch before playing the in-form Sean Houston through on goal. He made no mistake – firing past a stranded Hall – into an empty net.

Limerick started the second half stronger. Dean Clarke flashed an effort just wide of Gallagher’s goal, but it was the introduction of Ian Turner that swung the game in Limerick’s favour.

The ex-Cork winger picked the ball up after some neat footwork from Lynch. He beat Gareth Harkin to the byline before pinging an inch-perfect cross for Brazilian striker Rodrigo Tosi to nod home – much to the relief of those in attendance.

Robbie Williams’ header in the dying stages smashed off the bar, but he was hauled down in the process. Referee John McLaughlin said no and play continued.
