Finn Harps issue positive update on pair following worrying scenes in Ballybofey

Manager Ollie Horgan says Harry Doherty and Packie Mailey are “recovering” after a clash of heads.

FINN HARPS HAVE issued a positive update on players Harry Doherty and Packie Mailey following worrying scenes amid their 1-0 home loss to Sligo Rovers in the EA Sports Cup second-round match on Monday evening.

Mailey and Doherty were involved in a clash of heads in the second half, with the latter losing consciousness as a result.

The Finn Harps goalkeeper was taken away by ambulance after the medical team spent in the region of 25 minutes treating the player, while Mailey was also tended to for an extensive period and left the field with his head bandaged.

The pair were taken to hospital, as was young striker BJ Banda, who suffered a knee injury in the first half.

The length of time the trio will be missing for is not yet certain.

Manager Ollie Horgan added in a statement today: “Harry Doherty was kept in Letterkenny Hospital overnight for observation following his head injury. I saw Harry at the hospital earlier today and thankfully he appeared to be recovering well at that stage.

“Packie Mailey got stitches in the head wound and was allowed home last night.

BJ Banda was assessed at the hospital last night as well and was able to go home. He may have knee ligament or cartilage damage, but we won’t know anything for sure until he gets a scan done in the next couple of days.

“So at the moment all three are just recovering, which is good news, and we’ll just monitor their progress from here.”

Meanwhile, Doherty has thanked fans for their messages of support via Twitter.
