Ireland end the year 23rd in Fifa's World Rankings

Their Group D opponents Wales are 12th.

IRELAND WILL END 2016 in 23rd place in Fifa’s World Rankings having reached a five-year high following victory over Austria last month.

Martin O’Neill’s side are the 14th ranked European team and continue to be the second-highest ranked of all the Group D teams.

Wales occupy 12th, while Austria and Serbia remain 31st and 44th respectively.

Georgia are up one place to 118 while Moldova, bottom or Group D with just one point from four games, are 164th.

England (13th), Northern Ireland (32nd) and Scotland (67th) are all unchanged, as is the top 10:
