The clear-out continues as Fifa sacks secretary general

Jerome Valcke has been dismissed with immediate effect following allegations of corruption.

FIFA’S EMERGENCY COMMITTEE has dismissed suspended secretary general Jerome Valcke with immediate effect.

Valcke, 55, the former right-hand man to banned Fifa president Sepp Blatter, had been suspended following alleged violations of the organisation’s ethics code.

Last month Blatter and Uefa president Michel Platini were banned from football for eight years following an investigation into a €1.84 million disloyal payment.

Fifa has recommended that Valcke be banned from the game for nine years and be fined 100,000 Swiss francs (€92,000) for his alleged involvement in a scheme to profit from World Cup tickets.

The duties of the Secretary General will continue to be assumed by the acting secretary general, Dr Markus Kattner.
