Terrifying scenes in La Liga as Fernando Torres is rushed to hospital after head trauma

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the veteran striker is ‘stable and conscious’.

THERE WERE SOME harrowing scenes tonight as Atletico Madrid’s Fernando Torres was rushed to hospital after an on-field collision during his side’s La Liga game with Deportivo la Coruna.

The incident happened in the 85th-minute when Torres – who came on as a substitute 20 minutes earlier – jumped to clear a ball and was clattered from behind by Alex Bergantinos. The impact sent the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker sprawling to the ground, where his head crashed violently against the turf.

Players from both teams were instantly aware of the severity of the situation and gestured for medics to enter the field immediately. Some Atleti players – namely Jose Gimenez –  were visibly upset.

Atletico later confirmed that Torres had been rushed to hospital for tests but reassured everyone that he was stable and conscious.

He’ll remain in hospital overnight and have more tests done on Friday.
