Fred: given the circumstances, surely a strong contender for the Fallon d'Floor 2014? Thanassis Stavrakis

What is the Fallon d'Floor award - and who is in the running?

The internet fights back against diving.

FOOTBALL FANS ARE out to name and shame the beautiful game’s worst divers in the inaugural Fallon d’Floor award.

Users of Reddit community r/soccer have started work on a campaign to highlight ”the most theatrical dives of the year.”

The idea gathered pace on Saturday when Cristiano Ronaldo, the unanimous favourite for this year’s Ballon d’Or, went down under the slightest of touches to win a penalty against Celta Vigo.

“That’s got me thinking, if there was a highly publicised “joke” diving award … could it be used to curb diving?” one user wrote.

The term Fallon d’Floor — an obvious yet hilarious pun — has been used before but this appears to be the first attempt to organise an annual voting process, so watch this space.

Who is likely to be in the running if the campaign does get off the ground?

This is the Ronaldo incident that started the whole idea:
