Ex-Fine Gael TD and All-Ireland winner is new Leitrim selector

John O’Mahony led the county to their first provincial title in 67 years back in 1994.

JOHN O’MAHONY WILL be part of the Leitrim footballers’ new management team, it has been confirmed.

O’Mahony, a former Fine Gael TD, guided Leitrim to their first provincial title in 67 years back in 1994, while he also managed Galway to All-Ireland wins in 1998 and 2001, in addition to managing Mayo.

O’Mahony is joined by Brendan Guckian, who was ratified as the new manager at last night’s county board meeting.

As well as O’Mahony, former Leitrim player Seamus Quinn will serve as a selector, while Michael Moyles is team trainer.

Meanwhile, ex-goalkeeper Thomas Quinn will be the team’s Dublin-based trainer.

The moves come after Shane Ward stepped down as the county’s manager following an 11-point loss to Sligo in the All-Ireland qualifiers back in July.
