As it happened: Everton v Manchester United, Premier League

Relive all action from a dramatic afternoon at Goodison Park.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Everton’s meeting with Manchester United.

A win at Goodison Park would see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team can close the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to just one point, and United come into the game on the back of wins against Lampard’s Blues and Watford.

Everton played out a thrilling 3-2 defeat away to Arsenal last time out, but the Toffees have made steady improvements under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian has made five changes to his team, who currently sit 11th in the table, with Andre Gomes making his first start since fracturing his ankle in November.

Ireland captain Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Theo Walcott and Tom Davies also return for the home side.

United also change five from the team that beat Club Brugge 5-0 on Wednesday.

The big news is that Anthony Martial is passed fit to start and partners Mason Greenwood up front.

Elsewhere David De Gea returns in goal, Victor Lindelof replaces Eric Bailly at centre-back, Nemanja Matic is in for Juan Mata and Mason Greenwood joins Martial up front.

Kick-off is at 2pm, we’ll be back with more then.

Right then, just five minutes to kick-off.

A win here would really give United some momentum ahead of next Sunday’s Manchester derby.

It’s a nice crisp day at Goodison, which hopefully means we’ll see some good football, and for some reason there appears to be a lot of fans dressed up as Star Wars characters.

And we’re off. Everton get us underway at Goodison, where conditions are perfect.

GOAL: Everton 1 Manchester United 0 (Calvert-Lewin, 3)

Well now… How about that for a start?

David de Gea has the ball at his feet with plenty of time to pick a pass, but takes too long on the ball and his clearance is blocked down by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the ball flies into the net.

A big error from the United keeper, and a perfect start for Everton.

CHANCE!

Matic cracks a shot off the crossbar for United, just minutes after Richarlison sends a low effort just wide for Everton.

A breathless start to this game.

Decent build-up play by United as they switch the play from right to left. It eventually comes to Martial on the edge of the box, but he drags his shot harmlessly wide.

CHANCE!

Matic again. This time his driven low effort is well saved by Jordan Pickford.

A poor effort from Luke Shaw is easily blocked away. United have settled into this game since conceding that early goal and look good on the ball. Matic and Martial both heavily involved so far, and Wan-Bissaka is looking dangerous down the right.

Seamus Coleman has been forced off with an injury.

The Everton captain seemed to have been indicating he had a problem around the thigh muscle area, but it’s not clear exactly. He’s replaced by Djibril Sidibe.

Hopefully it’s nothing too serious for Coleman, with Ireland’s Euro 2020 play-off semi-final on 26 March.

Goal: Everton 1 Manchester United 1 (Fernandes, 31)

Bruno Fernandes has United level.

The new man finds himself in acres of space, and his sweetly struck effort from distance flies past Pickford, but the Everton goalkeeper should probably should have done better.

A deserved equaliser for the visitors.

Richarlison is down and appears to be in a lot of pain after Fred caught him on the knee with his studs. Looks like he’ll be able to continue.

Calvert-Lewin and Luke Shaw both yellow-carded after a coming together following a tackle on the United defender.

An animated Carlo Ancelotti is very unhappy with the decision.

It’s getting a bit tasty out there.

Tom Davies goes in the book after a late tackle on Matic.

Harry Maguire the latest to pick up a yellow card for a trip as Everton tried to launch a counter-attack.

There will be three minutes of added time.

CHANCE!

Baines whips in a great cross from the left, and Richarlison gets across Shaw but glances his header wide.

Half-time: Everton 1 Manchester United 1

A very entertaining 45 minutes with plenty of talking points.

Everton had a perfect start with that early David de Gea error, but United have looked the better team since and fully deserved to pull level through Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international has been excellent for United, but Solskjaer will want to see Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood more involved in the second half.

Elsewhere in the race for Champions League football next season, Serge Aurier has handed Tottenham a 2-1 half-time lead against Wolves.

We’ll be back with all the second half action from Goodison Park shortly.

The second half is underway at Goodison. No changes for either side.

Everton’s Tom Davies loses the ball in midfield. Fernandes cuts inside and blasts a wild shot high and wide.

Not the same pace to this game since the restart, with both teams struggling to create chances. We might see some fresh faces introduced shortly.

Lindelof has just been booked for a foul on Calvert-Lewin and Everton have a free-kick in a dangerous position.

POST!

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick smacks back of the post with De Gea rooted to the spot.

United get forward and Fred whips in a cross but there’s nobody there and Keane clears.

United win the ball back, Fernandes floats a long ball over the top but this time Pickford comes off his line and collects the ball.

Greenwood breaks forwards and a brilliant dummy by Fernandes.

He slips the ball to Martial but his weak effort is blocked wide for a corner.

Lovely play by Fernandes again.

He beats two Everton players with some neat footwork but his driven effort is well blocked by Tom Davis.

He gets another crack at it but fires wide.

Meanwhile Everton have introduced Bernard for Theo Walcott.

Another good cross from Baines but Matic is on hand to head the ball away.

De Gea saves at the near post from Calvert-Lewin, who has really looked sharp for Everton today.

Everton awarded a free-kick for handball against Fred on the edge of the box. Replays show the ball actually came off his leg, but the United man is booked for angrily remonstrating with the referee.

Sigurdsson steps over the free, but sends the ball harmlessly into the wall.

Meanwhile there’s a double change for United, as McTominay and Greenwood make way for Mata and Ighalo.

CHANCE!

A brilliant corner from Baines that just needed a touch from an Everton player, but Maguire manages to put the ball behind for another corner, which comes to nothing.

CHANCE!

Fernandes breaks forward down the left, cuts inside and uses the outside of his right boot to put the ball across the box, but Baines does really well to get back and clear the danger with Ighalo lurking behind him.

Sidibe looks in a lot of pain after clattering into the advertising hoardings behind the United goal.

Everton playing with 10 men for now.

You don’t see that too often…

Sidibe is back on, but gets booked for returning to the pitch before being invited to do so by the referee.

Moise Keane comes on for Everton in place of Andre Gomes, who gets a standing ovation as he leaves the pitch.

This was Gomes’ first start since that horror ankle injury in November.

Everton have a free-kick down the near the United touchline as we enter the final 10 minutes.

Baines whips it in, it’s cleared, and Tom Davies’ follow up effort is block.

Everton corner.

Baines corner is brilliantly cleared by that man Harry Maguire again.

There’s pushing and shoving as the ball breaks loose and United are awarded a free-kick.

CHANCE!

Richarlison shows some quick feet to beat Fred and Wan-Bissaka before his low effort is blocked wide for a corner, which comes to nothing again.

Maguire blocks another Everton cross wide for a corner.

And once again Maguire heads the resulting corner clear.

United make their third and final change, Brandon Williams is on for Martial.

SAVE!

Pickford denies Fernandes before he gets across to somehow block Ighalo’s follow-up effort.

That looked a certain goal.

We’re into the three minutes of added time.

GOAL DISALLOWED!

Wow.

Everton think they’ve won it after a Calvert-Lewin shot flies in off Maguire, but it’s crossed out as Sigurdsson, who was still on the ground following another chance moments earlier, is deemed to have been in an offside position and blocked De Gea getting to the ball.

Full-time: Everton 1 Manchester United 1

Red card: Carlo Ancelotti

And breathe…

What an ending to the game.

Everton manger Carlo Ancelotti has just been sent-off for remonstrating with the referee after the full-time whistle.

It’s easy to understand why he’s angry.

Calvert-Lewin looked to have scored a dramatic winner before Sigurdsson was deemed to have impeded De Gea’s view from an offside position. Everton players aren’t happy with the decision, and their manager could be set for a touchline ban.

Both teams had chances to win it at the end, but the game ends 1-1.

We’ll have a full report and reaction up shortly, thanks for joining us!
