THEIR RIVALRY MAY be the fiercest in the game, but Liverpool and Everton have this week been united in celebration of ‘the greatest victory in the history of football.’
The blue half of Merseyside has stood by their neighbour and provided support in the quest for justice and the 27-year pursuit of the truth.
And Everton will today pay tribute to the families of the 96 Hillsborough victims after a jury concluded their loved ones were ‘unlawfully killed’.
The front of the matchday programme carries a special tribute to the families while both sets of players will wear commemorative t-shirts during their respective warm-ups.
The quote on the front of the programme is from Everton owner Bill Kenwright from his speech at Anfield in 2013. He said: ‘They took on the wrong city – they took on the wrong mums.’
