Opportunity knocks for Irish striker as Leeds hand him senior debut after Chris Wood sale

Eoghan Stokes had been heavily linked with a move to Cork City back in June.

EOGHAN STOKES HAS been handed a senior debut by Leeds United for tonight’s League Cup clash with Newport.

With main striker Chris Wood having confirmed a move to Burnley yesterday, the 21-year-old attacker has a chance to impress and stake a claim for the rest of the campaign.

Stokes, a former Republic of Ireland U19 international, has been with Leeds for the last five years and made the switch from St. Kevin’s Boys.

He was heavily linked with a move to Cork City back in June but decided to accept Leeds’ offer of a one-year contract extension.

Stokes is included in tonight’s starting XI alongside 21-year-old Galway native Conor Shaughnessy who made his first senior Leeds start in the 4-1 win over Port Vale last week.
