Cork youngster Eoghan O'Connell made his debut for Celtic tonight in Turkey

Ireland U19 international O’Connell came on as a second-half substitute against Trabzonspor.

CORK YOUNGSTER EOGHAN O’Connell made his first-team debut for Celtic tonight in Turkey.

The Scottish giants won 3-1 against Trabzonspor in the Turkish Airlines Antalya Cup and now advance to face Ajax or Galatasaray in the final on Sunday.

And manager Neil Lennon introduced O’Connell to the action in the second-half when the young defender replaced Virgil Van Dijk.

Celtic were already ahead 3-1 when Ireland U19 international O’Connell entered the fray and they retained the advantage until the finish.

Currently Celtic are 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League table with this trip to Turkey coming on the back of a 4-0 win over St Mirren last Sunday.

It was a great night for O’Connell and his former GAA clubs on Leeside – Blackrock (hurling) and St Michael’s (Gaelic football) – sent their best wishes.
