Gold for Ireland's Downey and English at Track Cycling World Cup in LA

The team-mates are bang in form ahead of the World Championships.

MARK DOWNEY AND Felix English powered their way to a Madison gold medal at last night’s track cycling World Cup leg in LA.

The duo, who last week claimed silver in Colombia, came out on top in the final round of the World Cup with 57 points to their name, ahead of Denmark’s Julius Johansen and Casper Pederson (45) and Kiwi pair Campbell Stewart and Thomas Sexton (44).

The result sees Ireland jump another place in the 30km event standings. They are now ranked fifth — behind Italy, Switzerland, France and Belgium — as they turn their attention to the UCI Track Cycling World Championships which take place in Hong Kong on 12 – 16 April.
