RFU close to agreeing match fees for Women's 15s squad ahead of their November Tests

England have named a 35-strong elite squad for the season ahead, with 28 women in their November training squad.

ENGLAND’S RUGBY FOOTBALL Union (RFU) have today announced that they are on the verge of agreeing a remuneration package for its leading 15-a-side women’s team.

The Red Roses, who lost to New Zealand in the Women’s World Cup final held in Ireland in August, had previously paid its elite playing squad (EPS) on a full-time basis.

That short deal concluded with the World Cup. but will be replaced next month by an annual squad fee for 35 EPS players plus a match fee.

The RFU say they are in discussions with the Rugby Players’ Association about the details of the payments, but the union states that it will be finalised before England kick-off their three-Test series against Canada on 17 November.

While Ireland – who played November Tests in 2015 and 2016 – won’t be in action until next year, Grand Slam-winning England head coach Simon Middleton has been able to recall 18 of his World Cup squad in the 28-strong group which will gather for the series on 13 November.
