Hello! And welcome to our live coverage of this evening’s last-16 clash between Colombia and England from Moscow.
There has been so much talk, hype and more talk about this game but the hour has finally arrived. Is football ‘coming home?’ Have England looked too far ahead? Have Colombia been unfairly underrated?
All these questions will be answered soon. England have two victories under their belt, beating Tunisia and Panama before falling to Belgium in a group game many suggested they were better off losing in order to fall into an easier side of the draw.
Harry Kane is in fine form with five goals already, while Colombia have been damaged by the injury woes of their own star man James Rodriguez.
A quarter-final against Sweden is up for grabs, with kick-off at the Spartak Stadium coming up in just under an hour at 7pm.
Less than half an hour to go now and the big team news sees James Rodriguez not even named on the bench for Colombia. The horror!
Many suggested that this was a 50-50 game with the Real Madrid and Bayern star in their starting XI, but that without him England could be deemed favourites.
The player found a new lease of life at the Allianz Arena on-loan last season in Munich, but just hasn’t gotten going at this summer’s World Cup after being plagued by injury setbacks.
How will his absence affect proceedings on the pitch today?
The national anthems are done and dusted and we’re just about ready to get underway in Moscow. Brace yourselves for the long night ahead, because here we go!
KICK-OFF: Colombia tip-off and we’re underway at the Spartak Stadium!
3 Jul 2018
7:04PM
Both sides enjoying temporary spells of possession inside the opening few minutes. A very relaxed start by all measures, especially when you consider it was already 1-1 between Croatia and Denmark by this stage on Sunday evening.
3 Jul 2018
7:06PM
A free-kick in a dangerous position for the Three Lions as Yerry Mina handles the ball along the ground after attempting a sliding challenge on Raheem Sterling down the left flank.
Ashley Young whips a decent effort on target from an acute angle, but David Ospina happily bats it away. He tried to do a Toni Kroos versus Sweden on it, but to no avail.
An England corner leads to a swift counter-attack from their opponents. Juan Cuadrado storms away but just doesn’t manage to lift his head in time to pick out a team-mate in space on the opposite wing. Still, a decent break which offered a brief insight into the threat Colombia possess against this 3-man England defence.

#col players being physical in their marking of Kane at corners. Conversations being had between players from both sides and the referee already.
Chance! The game’s first real sight at goal comes from the right boot of Raheem Sterling. He was left with an ocean of space right on the edge of the box as a host of Colombia defenders looked around them completely disorganised.
Sterling let fly with a snapshot, but Davinson Sanchez did really well to close the space and get a block in. A serious let-off for Colombia, that, because Sterling could have easily brought possession in closer to properly test Ospina.
You have to say, all things considered, it’s been a very promising start for Gareth Southgate’s men so far. There have been two clear-cut chances after 20 minutes and both have come from men in red. Colombia yet to show anything of note in the final third, but there’s plenty time left to try and impose themselves on this game.

7:28PM
Colombia with a couple of decent breaks, but again England force a half-chance from a set-piece at the other end.
Ashley Young whips a free-kick into the area but Harry Maguire’s header is smothered away for a corner kick, which is then itself hoofed clear at the first hurdle.

7:29PM
Watching Quintero properly commit opponents with those body feints reminds you just how few players are willing to do that nowadays – especially in central/deep areas
Carlos Sanchez tries to pick out Juan Cuadrado with a long, raking ball over the top, but it peters out harmlessly for a goal-kick. It’s been that type of a game so far: nip-and-tuck, tight, attritional, with few real chances to rave about.
35 minutes in, and it's all a bit...well...Englandy.
Jordan Henderson spots a rare hole in the Colombian defence and picks out Harry Kane with a neat through ball. The Tottenham striker wasn’t on the same wavelength though, and the pass seeps out of play for a goal-kick.
3 Jul 2018
7:42PM
There’s a bit of consternation now as replays show Wilmar Barrios moved his head into Jordan Henderson while Colombia set up their wall for an England free.
There was a bit of argy bargy between the pair, but the midfielder did in fact shove his head into the chin of the Liverpool captain. No penalty is given, and that may be a lucky escape for Barrios.
Harry Maguire called for VAR and it very easily might have been a penalty for England.
3 Jul 2018
7:43PM
Kieran Trippier lines up the free-kick which preceded all that arguing, but his effort curls well wide of the target. Barrios was, in fact, booked for his challenge on Henderson but it’s just a yellow card and he lives to fight on.
Wilmar Barrios is booked for what looks like a head-butt on Jordan Henderson, which rules him out of Colombia's next game, but is he lucky it's just a yellow card? #rtesoccer#worldcup#COL#ENGpic.twitter.com/gbPzwjD47z
There will be three minutes of stoppage time to come at the end of the first half.

7:47PM
Shot! Juan Quintero lets fly from the edge of the box, but his effort is right at Jordan Pickford, who gathers easily. At the other end Jesse Lingard has a go of his own from close-range, but his half-volley bounces well over the target. The ball just didn’t come up right for the Man United forward.
It’s been okay in some parts, mundane in others, with a controversial refereeing decision thrown in that will be absolutely analysed to death.
England have maintained the upper hand, with Jesse Lingard very impressive in the final third getting his side’s attack in motion. Colombia pose a sporadic threat on the counter, but otherwise have been relatively quiet so far. More action to come shortly!
A slow-paced start to this second half. It’s been a case of picking up where the opening 45 minutes left off as that back three of Stones, Walker and Maguire string the ball to and fro at the back, while Colombia happily sit back and wait to engage deeper down the pitch.
Southgate’s side clearly want to drag José Pékerman’s defensive structure out of place, but so far they’re getting no success as they maintain possession but do they little with it at the back.
Some signs of life in this game now as Santiago Arias is shown a yellow card after barging into the back of Harry Kane while competing for a high ball. He isn’t impressed, but really the defender can have no complaints about that challenge.
Carlos Sanchez drags Harry Kane to the ground as a corner was floated into the box, and England now have the chance to take the lead from the spot-kick. The Colombian players are incensed, but the decision stands and Sanchez is shown a yellow card.
GOOOOOAL!!! England take the lead seven minutes into the second half as Harry Kane sends David Ospina the wrong way, slotting the ball comfortably to the right. It’s his sixth goal of the World Cup and England lead Colombia 1-0.
Substitution: AC Milan forward Carlos Bacca replaces Jefferson Lerma off the bench as Colombia go in search of an equaliser. The striker was on loan last season at Villarreal, where he managed an impressive 15 goals in 35 games.
3 Jul 2018
8:26PM
Chance! Dele Alli escapes his man at the far post and narrowly heads over the bar. That easily could have been 2-0, but things really are beginning heat up as challenges fly in left, right and centre. Bacca is shown a yellow card for a shoulder, and that’s five bookings for Colombia already after 65 minutes.
3 Jul 2018
8:29PM
Another foul now as Wilmar Barrios barges into the back of Dele Alli. It’s bedlam out there at the moment, fouls and rough challenges galore. It really does seem like Colombia are trying to psyche out England at the moment. How Gareth Southgate’s side navigate these waters will be crucial as they try and maintain this one goal lead.
A rare period of calm over the last five minutes as England attempt to get the ball down on the deck play some football. Colombia don’t seem to have the same preoccupation with matters on the ball, but there’s something oddly admirable about their crazy antics, isn’t there? Maybe just me.
3 Jul 2018
8:36PM
Harry Maguire rises high to meet another corner but the Leicester defender’s effort is high and lands just over the crossbar. England are a constant threat at set pieces as they make use of the height advantage which Maguire, Stones and Kane possess. The three of them all jumping for the same high ball is quite the task for defenders this evening.
3 Jul 2018
8:36PM
3 - Harry Kane is the first player to convert 3 penalties (excl. penalty shootouts) at a single World Cup tournament since Hristo Stoichkov for Bulgaria in 1994. Deadly. #COLENG#WorldCup2018pic.twitter.com/PAaCVJAJqD
Shouts for a penalty from Jesse Lingard as England snap into a speedy counter-attack. Colombia are trying to get some sort of an attack going, but as a result are leaving massive gaps at the back.
Raheem Sterling takes advantage of this, running at defenders with tremendous pace before offloading possession to Lingard inside the box.
The Man United forward seems in two minds about whether to have a go at goal or to draw the foul. He decides on the latter as Davinson Sanchez slides in, but the referee says without hesitation that it was a fair challenge.
3 Jul 2018
8:42PM
Substitution: Eric Dier is brought on in place of his Tottenham team-mate Dele Alli with 10 minutes remaining.
Chance! OHHHHH my that so close! Colombia will be kicking themselves as Juan Cuadrado hoofs a poor effort over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.
It was a rare lapse in concentration from England at the back which led to the chance.
A quick break saw Carlos Bacca cause momentary panic against a back-peddling defence. He offloaded to Cuadrado just inside the box, but the Juventus winger poorly missed the target completely with a powerful strike. He may live to regret that immensely.
A pair of headers go begging as Colombia really up the ante late on here. Falcao rises highest but he can only head well over the crossbar when the opportunity came his way. Intense pressure late on here, but is it too little too late for José Pékerman’s men with five minutes remaining?
GOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!! Can you actually believe it? Yerry Mina pops up with a dramatic header in the 93rd minute to draw the sides level. Scenes of utter pandemonium from the Colombia supporters as they level deep in injury time. Wow. Wow!
Celebrations lasted a good two or three minutes from the Colombia players there, and we’re heading for extra-time. England just couldn’t manage to hang on and Yerry Mina’s close-range header with two minutes to go means there’s more action to come. The drama. The drama! Wow.

9:00PM
Another #WorldCup match, another last-minute goal to ruin our full-time graphic...#COL fans will not care about that, though!
EXTRA-TIME FIRST HALF: I hope you’ve caught your breath, because we’re back underway!
3 Jul 2018
9:06PM
A feisty challenge gets us up and running. I’ve honestly lost count of the number of fouls in this game. This time Ashley Young and Wilmar Barrios clash vying for possession as their ankles get tangled together. After a few moments they’re both up and running and ready for more battle. This. Is. Intense.
3 Jul 2018
9:07PM
The Colombia fans in New York were absolutely loving it with Yerry Mina’s header.
Carlos Bacca has made such an impact since coming on in the second half. He makes a smart run behind enemy lines and is almost presented with a one vs one chance, but Jordan Pickford does really well to read the danger and snatch possession first off his line.
3 Jul 2018
9:12PM
This is an entirely different Colombia side to the one which slogged through the opening 80 minutes of this game. When under the cosh, they have really upped their game in attack and are, it has to be said, really dominating play now. Gareth Southgate’s men look a little bit nervous, and Colombia are starting to smell blood here it seems.
Chance! Colombia break again and this time Falcao is a matter of inches away from heading his side into the lead. The Monaco striker rises high between both John Stones and Kyle Walker, but his effort lags the wrong side of the post.
No goals after 15 minutes as the second half looms. Colombia have dominated extra-time so far, as England still look slightly rocked by that late, late equaliser. Gareth Southgate’s side were calm and composed on the ball in normal time, but now look just a little bit aimless and lacklustre as their opponents look for a winner. More action to come!
Chance! Right from the off Jamie Vardy sends a bullet of an effort right at David Ospina, but the linesman raises his flag and the Leicester striker is deemed offside. It’s all action, and not a moment’s rest for either side.
3 Jul 2018
9:27PM
Goodness me, it really is just end-to-end. Another chance comes and goes for Vardy, before a long ball over the top almost sees Radamel Falcao through on goal. Jordan Pickford does a Neuer on it, coming from his line to hoof the ball into Row Z. He got his laces behind that one, I’ll tell you that.
3 Jul 2018
9:27PM
Another England team running out of gas in a tournament, playing for a penalty shootout
Danny Rose almost with a late, great winner for his side, but his low driving effort misses the bottom corner by a whisper. England have been a lot better in the second period of extra-time, as Colombia begin to sit deep and invite pressure.
3 Jul 2018
9:33PM
Another chance for England goes begging as Jesse Lingard pops up at the back post and nearly converts the ball into the back of the net. Yerry Mina with a last-ditch block which puts the ball out for a corner, which is subsequently headed over the bar by Eric Dier.
Substitution: Cristian Zapata comes on in place of Santiago Arias with four minutes to go. The right back has put in some shift this evening for his side.

Jesse Lingard did so well to latch onto a through ball from Kieran Trippier, with the Man United man picking out Kane with a dangerous cross.
Kane evades his markers completely at the back post, but his headed effort lagged just over the crossbar. It almost dipped into the top corner.
