Hello! And welcome to our live coverage of this evening’s last-16 clash between Colombia and England from Moscow.
There has been so much talk, hype and more talk about this game but the hour has finally arrived. Is football ‘coming home?’ Have England looked too far ahead? Have Colombia been unfairly underrated?
All these questions will be answered soon. England have two victories under their belt, beating Tunisia and Panama before falling to Belgium in a group game many suggested they were better off losing in order to fall into an easier side of the draw.
Harry Kane is in fine form with five goals already, while Colombia have been damaged by the injury woes of their own star man James Rodriguez.
A quarter-final against Sweden is up for grabs, with kick-off at the Spartak Stadium coming up in just under an hour at 7pm.
Less than half an hour to go now and the big team news sees James Rodriguez not even named on the bench for Colombia. The horror!
Many suggested that this was a 50-50 game with the Real Madrid and Bayern star in their starting XI, but that without him England could be deemed favourites.
The player found a new lease of life at the Allianz Arena on-loan last season in Munich, but just hasn’t gotten going at this summer’s World Cup after being plagued by injury setbacks.
How will his absence affect proceedings on the pitch today?

Both sides enjoying temporary spells of possession inside the opening few minutes. A very relaxed start by all measures, especially when you consider it was already 1-1 between Croatia and Denmark by this stage on Sunday evening.

Ashley Young whips a decent effort on target from an acute angle, but David Ospina happily bats it away. He tried to do a Toni Kroos versus Sweden on it, but to no avail.
An England corner leads to a swift counter-attack from their opponents. Juan Cuadrado storms away but just doesn’t manage to lift his head in time to pick out a team-mate in space on the opposite wing. Still, a decent break which offered a brief insight into the threat Colombia possess against this 3-man England defence.

Chance! The game’s first real sight at goal comes from the right boot of Raheem Sterling. He was left with an ocean of space right on the edge of the box as a host of Colombia defenders looked around them completely disorganised.
Sterling let fly with a snapshot, but Davinson Sanchez did really well to close the space and get a block in. A serious let-off for Colombia, that, because Sterling could have easily brought possession in closer to properly test Ospina.
You have to say, all things considered, it’s been a very promising start for Gareth Southgate’s men so far. There have been two clear-cut chances after 20 minutes and both have come from men in red. Colombia yet to show anything of note in the final third, but there’s plenty time left to try and impose themselves on this game.

Watching Quintero properly commit opponents with those body feints reminds you just how few players are willing to do that nowadays – especially in central/deep areas
Carlos Sanchez tries to pick out Juan Cuadrado with a long, raking ball over the top, but it peters out harmlessly for a goal-kick. It’s been that type of a game so far: nip-and-tuck, tight, attritional, with few real chances to rave about.
35 minutes in, and it's all a bit...well...Englandy.
Jordan Henderson spots a rare hole in the Colombian defence and picks out Harry Kane with a neat through ball. The Tottenham striker wasn’t on the same wavelength though, and the pass seeps out of play for a goal-kick.

There’s a bit of consternation now as replays show Wilmar Barrios moved his head into Jordan Henderson while Colombia set up their wall for an England free.
There was a bit of argy bargy between the pair, but the midfielder did in fact shove his head into the chin of the Liverpool captain. No penalty is given, and that may be a lucky escape for Barrios.
Harry Maguire called for VAR and it very easily might have been a penalty for England.

Kieran Trippier lines up the free-kick which preceded all that arguing, but his effort curls well wide of the target. Barrios was, in fact, booked for his challenge on Henderson but it’s just a yellow card and he lives to fight on.

At the other end Jesse Lingard has a go of his own from close-range, but his half-volley bounces well over the target. The ball just didn’t come up right for the Man United forward.
It’s been okay in some parts, mundane in others, with a controversial refereeing decision thrown in that will be absolutely analysed to death.

Substitution: AC Milan forward Carlos Bacca replaces Jefferson Lerma off the bench as Colombia go in search of an equaliser. The striker was on loan last season at Villarreal, where he managed an impressive 15 goals in 35 games.

Another foul now as Wilmar Barrios barges into the back of Dele Alli. It’s bedlam out there at the moment, fouls and rough challenges galore. It really does seem like Colombia are trying to psyche out England at the moment. How Gareth Southgate’s side navigate these waters will be crucial as they try and maintain this one goal lead.
A rare period of calm over the last five minutes as England attempt to get the ball down on the deck play some football. Colombia don’t seem to have the same preoccupation with matters on the ball, but there’s something oddly admirable about their crazy antics, isn’t there? Maybe just me.

Harry Maguire rises high to meet another corner but the Leicester defender’s effort is high and lands just over the crossbar. England are a constant threat at set pieces as they make use of the height advantage which Maguire, Stones and Kane possess. The three of them all jumping for the same high ball is quite the task for defenders this evening.

It was a rare lapse in concentration from England at the back which led to the chance.
A quick break saw Carlos Bacca cause momentary panic against a back-peddling defence. He offloaded to Cuadrado just inside the box, but the Juventus winger poorly missed the target completely with a powerful strike. He may live to regret that immensely.

The Colombia fans in New York were absolutely loving it with Yerry Mina’s header.
Carlos Bacca has made such an impact since coming on in the second half. He makes a smart run behind enemy lines and is almost presented with a one vs one chance, but Jordan Pickford does really well to read the danger and snatch possession first off his line.

This is an entirely different Colombia side to the one which slogged through the opening 80 minutes of this game. When under the cosh, they have really upped their game in attack and are, it has to be said, really dominating play now. Gareth Southgate’s men look a little bit nervous, and Colombia are starting to smell blood here it seems.
Chance! Colombia break again and this time Falcao is a matter of inches away from heading his side into the lead. The Monaco striker rises high between both John Stones and Kyle Walker, but his effort lags the wrong side of the post.
No goals after 15 minutes as the second half looms. Colombia have dominated extra-time so far, as England still look slightly rocked by that late, late equaliser. Gareth Southgate’s side were calm and composed on the ball in normal time, but now look just a little bit aimless and lacklustre as their opponents look for a winner. More action to come!

Goodness me, it really is just end-to-end. Another chance comes and goes for Vardy, before a long ball over the top almost sees Radamel Falcao through on goal. Jordan Pickford does a Neuer on it, coming from his line to hoof the ball into Row Z. He got his laces behind that one, I’ll tell you that.

Danny Rose almost with a late, great winner for his side, but his low driving effort misses the bottom corner by a whisper. England have been a lot better in the second period of extra-time, as Colombia begin to sit deep and invite pressure.
