A legendary former Manchester United goalkeeper has been coaxed out of retirement

Edwin van der Sar is back where it all began.

FORMER MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is set to play his first competitive game in over four years – at the age of 45.

The legendary Dutch net-minder last featured in the 2011 Champions League final when United were beaten 3-1 by Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona at Wembley Stadium.

His comeback will be in a slightly more lower-key surroundings though.

Van der Sar’s first senior club – VV Noordwijk – are currently without goalkeeping cover and their first-choice injured himself in the last league outing.

Desperate, the team contacted Ajax, where Van der Sar is the marketing director, and managed to persuade their former player to return to action.

He’ll tog out for the side in their clash with Jodan Boys next Saturday. They can expect a pretty bumper crowd for that fixture.
