IT WAS ONE of the outstanding moments in American football history, and a play which swung the momentum of Super Bowl LI in the Patriots’ favour.
Surrounded by three Falcons defenders, Julian Edelman had no right to snaffle Tom Brady’s 23-yard pass as it bobbled through the confused tangle of arms and legs towards the ground, inches from falling incomplete.
But he did, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Edelman’s reaction to the play, caught on his player mic, was released on Tuesday night.

“I caught it! I caught it!” he cried as he wrestled with Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen for possession.
“I caught it. Crazy, I swear to…” he told Falcons corner Brian Poole as the two watched the play being reviewed on the big screen.
“No way. Look at that, on the ground,” Poole answered.
Footage of Edelman’s reaction following the Pats’ winning drive in overtime was also released.
After Tom Brady put the celebrations on hold and told him that the officials had to review James White’s touchdown before confirming it, a panicked Edelman tried to usher people from the field.
“It’s not over,” Edelman kept insisting as a jubilant Bill Belichick embraced him.
“It’s not over, they’ve gotta review it,” he told his coach.
“They reviewed it,” Belichick told him, much to Edelman’s relief.
