THE DUBLIN AND Tyrone footballers were celebrating yesterday as they both retained their respective provincial crowns.
For two relative newcomers to the senior championship arena, the games were a personal triumph.
Dublin’s Con O’Callaghan was starting his first Leinster senior football final but that didn’t deter the Cuala man from finishing with a tally of 0-12, splitting his return evenly between play and frees.

He saw off the claims of team-mates Jack McCaffrey and Bernard Brogan, who came off the bench to hit 0-5 from play, but Kildare midfielder Kevin Feely was unlucky not to be nominated given his prowess throughout at midfield.

In Clones, Pádraig Hampsey’s form for Tyrone saw him claim the man-of-the-match honour after he raided from his half-back position for 0-3.
The Coalisland man only made his championship debut for the county in 2016 but he’s making his mark and was key to their provincial success over Down.
