Good evening everybody, you’re very welcome along to our minute-by-minute coverage of today’s Super 8s clash between Dublin and Roscommon at Croke Park.
It’s a lovely cool, calm day in the capital. Temperatures are settled nicely at about 18 degrees — a perfect evening for football as the Super 8s heads into round two.
The All-Ireland champions got off to a perfect start here a week ago. To their credit, Cork really put it up to the Dubs inside the opening half.
But Jim Gavin’s men kept their composure and turned the screw when needed, with a dominant second-half display (Jack McCaffrey, in particular, at his best) yielding a 13-point win, as Ronan McCarthy’s men eventually crumbled.

Roscommon suffered a similar fate against Tyrone last weekend, but really did push Mickey Harte’s men all the way. The Rossies succumbed to a 0-17 to 0-13 defeat which badly harms the Connacht champions’ hopes of making this year’s All-Ireland semi-finals.
An upset is next to impossible this evening. Dublin eased past Roscommon 4-24 to 2-16 when these sides met in the Super 8s last August and you wouldn’t bet against a similar result here today.
Cunningham’s men ran Dublin close back in March then these sides last met in the Allianz Football League. Dean Rock scored 1-5 that afternoon as Gavin’s side won 2-14 to 1-12. Another win here this evening would put one big blue foot in the semi-finals.
Stick with us, throw-in is coming up in an hour’s time at 7pm.
Dublin prevailed by a margin of five points when these sides met in the Allianz Football League back in March.

20 Jul 2019
8:33PM
Dublin 2-26 Roscommon 0-14
Great score by Paddy Small, again. He sprints clear of Enda Smith and steers the ball over the bar. The strength and depth of this Dublin bench is something to behold when you’ve players like Small, Paddy Andrews and Kevin McMamaman to bring on. Not to mention the likes of Cormac Costello, Bernard Brogan and now Diarmuid Connolly too.
It’s all over at Croke Park and it’s another dominant, one-sided win for Dublin. We’ve seen this all before.
Jim Gavin’s men were always in control with Ciaran Kilkenny, Dean Rock and Con O’Callaghan dominating the opening half, before Conor Daly’s red card effectively ended any chance of a Roscommon comeback as Anthony Cunningham’s men were forced to play the second half a man down.
As was to be expected, the All-Ireland champions pulled away after the break, tacking on score after score and emptying that impressive bench — Michael Darragh-MacAuley’s goal the pick of the scores.
The Dubs are through to another All-Ireland semi-final — thanks a million for joining us this evening!

As it happened: Dublin v Roscommon, All-Ireland SFC Super 8s

Stick with us, throw-in is coming up in an hour’s time at 7pm.
Cork could blow Group 2 of the Super 8s wide open this evening.
Ronan McCarthy’s men are currently leading Tyrone 2-5 to 0-5, with Luke Connolly and James Loughrey scoring two brilliant goals in the first half.
A Cork win would really throw a cat amongst the pigeons, especially with Roscommon heading to Páirc Uí Rinn in a fortnight’s time.
You can follow all the action between Cork and Tyrone here with half an hour remaining.

GOAL! Michael Darragh-MacAuley with a sublime strike on his right boot after powering through past Fintan Cregg. It’s his third goal of the 2019 championship and for a minute there it looked like his shot might rip the net off it’s hinges. Some finish.
Dublin 2-17 Roscommon 0-7
Dean Rock zips over another free and it’s now a 16 point lead. Jim Gavin makes two changes, Paddy Small replacing Paul Mannion and Kevin McManamon coming on for Ciaran Kilkenny.
Dublin 2-18 Roscommon 0-7
Rock with a second free of the second half. This one’s a bit further out and to the right, a tricky enough angle even for the best of free takers. But Rock makes no mistake and curls the ball between the sticks.
Dublin 2-18 Roscommon 0-7
A superb run and pass from Enda Smith finds Diarmuid Murtagh in dangerous territory inside the box. But just when it looks like he might get the chance to twist and have a go at goal, Murtagh is surrounded by blue shirts, with Mick Fitzsimons and Jonny Cooper grabbing the ball back expertly.
Dublin 2-18 Roscommon 0-7
The game has died down a little now and the crowd has grown a bit silent. This game has long been over as a contest and it’s being reflected as such in the atmosphere inside Croke Park. A very one-sided contest.
Dublin 2-18 Roscommon 0-8
Conor Cox with Roscommon’s first score of the second half and their first score since the 33rd minute of the first half. It’s a pinpoint free from distance. Jim Gavin opts for two more changes, Eric Lowndes and Rory O’Carroll on in place of Mick Fitzsimons and Jack McCaffrey.
Dublin 2-18 Roscommon 0-9
Another terrific score, this time it’s Niall Daly. He races forward from half-back, keeping his distance from his marker, before taking a look at goal and firing over the crossbar. Back-to-back scores for the Rossies.
Dublin 2-19 Roscommon 0-10
Conor Hussey adds another and it’s now three points in quick succession for Roscommon. Dublin respond down the other end, with Paddy Small notching a point from close range.
Dublin 2-19 Roscommon 0-12
Sean Mullooly ventures forward and kicks a point. The Strokestown man loves to venture forward when the opportunity presents itself. He positions himself right in front of goal and sees the white flag raised. Conor Cox follows that up with another score.
Dublin 2-19 Roscommon 0-13
A change for both sides. Paddy Andrews replaces Con O’Callaghan off the bench for Dublin, while Andrew Glennon comes on for Diarmuid Murtagh for Roscommon. A few moments later Conor Cox fires over another free. A 12 point game now.
Dublin 2-19 Roscommon 0-13
A really interesting past 10-15 minutes in this game. Jim Gavin has made a number of changes and Dublin just just seem a little disjointed, allowing gaps to appear and giving Roscommon the chance to tack some additional scores on the board.
Dublin 2-19 Roscommon 0-13
Another change for Roscommon as Gary Patterson replaces David Murray for the final 10 minutes. As play prepares to re-start, however, Michael Darragh-MacAuley is shown a black card after seeming to have a word with the linesman. A strange one.
Dublin 2-19 Roscommon 0-13
David Byrne replaces Michael Darragh-MacAuley, who appears to have been black carded for a body check on a Roscommon man. Down the other end Dean Rock fizzes another free over the bar, registering Dublin’s first score in almost 12 minutes of play.
Dublin 2-19 Roscommon 0-13
Kevin McManamon finds time and space down the left flank, punishing a poor Roscommon kick-out by Darren O’Malley. He looks up and finds the target on his weaker foot to extend Dublin’s lead to 14 points.
Dublin 2-22 Roscommon 0-13
Niall Scully picks the ball up in oceans of space. He takes a look around for a possible pass but, seeing no option, opts for a shot at goal. It travels the required distance and flies over Darren O’Malley’s head and over the bar too.
Dublin 2-23 Roscommon 0-13
Another switch by Anthony Cunningham for the final few minutes here. Niall Kilroy is replaced by Cian McKeon. A few moments later Dublin earn another free after Kevin McManaman was fouled, and Dean Rock adds another point to his tally.
Dublin 2-24 Roscommon 0-13
Another tidy score by Small. He collects the ball 35 metres out from goal and swings a fine strike over the bar on his left boot. He’s had a good impact off the bench in this second half, Paddy Small.
Dublin 2-24 Roscommon 0-14
Conor Hussey collects the ball close to goal and in a swift motion ducks away from his marker and slices a fine right-footed shot over Stephen Cluxton’s crossbar. The deficit now stands at 16 points as we approach stoppage time.
Dublin 2-25 Roscommon 0-14
Brian Fenton flies down the other end and adds another score for the All-Ireland champions. With no-one around him, the Raheny man points on his right boot. It’s his second score of the evening.
FULL-TIME: DUBLIN 2-26 ROSCOMMON 0-14
