DUBLIN FOUND LITTLE resistance in the form of Longford as they booked a Leinster MFC last four place with comfort this afternoon.
Ross McGarry scored 2-1 for the winners, while further goals from Adam Byrne, James Madden, James Doran and Sean Hawkshaw arrived as the Dubs coasted home.
After failing to score in the first 14 minutes, Dublin eventually settled and led by 1-6 to 0-1 at half-time. They cut loose after the break, adding 5-6 in the second period as Longford downed tools.
Dublin trailed by 10 points at half-time in their win over Meath in the previous round, but since then they’ve been in electric form.
It’s difficult to assess their credentials give then paucity of the challenge Longford put up, but on current form they are the clear frontrunners in Leinster and possibly beyond.
Peadar Ó Cofagh Bhroin looks like a tremendous prospect at full-back, while wing-back Eoin O’Dea may well have a long career in blue. James Doran and Ross McGarry scored 2-3 between them and were in fine form.
Longford arrived into Parnell Park with a defensive template, and to be honest never looked like they really believed they could win this game.
They played with Niall Farrelly as a full-time sweeper and their wing-forwards dropping deep, which made the game an extremely defensive affair.
Longford’s objective seemed to be to contain Dublin, rather than go and beat them.
The presence a spare defender in front of either full-back line meant both teams had to run the ball attack rather than kick it in long.

The sides were level at 0-1 apiece after 15 minutes, but Dublin took control in the second quarter. The home side reeled off an unanswered 1-5 before the interval as they figured out how to unlock the Longford rearguard through smart angles and quick movement in attack.
Ross McGarry punched the game’s first goal on 24 minutes, while a brace apiece from James Doran and Niall O’Leary left the Dubs 1-6 to 0-1 ahead at half-time.
