Dublin and Kerry's latest thriller breaks TG4 record for most-watched programme ever

A record 642,000 tuned in to TG4′s coverage of the Division 1 Football final.

AS DEAN ROCK’S late free struck the Hill 16 post and one record ended, another one was created.

Yesterday’s gripping Allianz National Football League Division 1 final between Dublin and Kerry was the most-watched programme ever broadcast on TG4, viewing figures released today confirm.

Kerry clinched the league title with a dramatic one-point win, 0-20 to 1-16, ending a 36-match unbeaten run for Jim Gavin’s Dubs as well as their five-in-a-row bid.

TAM Ireland’s figures show that a record 642,000 tuned in to TG4′s coverage, with an average audience of 354,000 watching from start to finish, a 37% share of the available audience.

The Division 2 decider, which saw Galway beat Kildare, had a 21% audience share.

TG4′s previous record audience for a single programme was 621,000 for the 2016 league final between Dublin and Kerry.

“We are all delighted with these all-time record viewing figures,” TG4 Sports Editor Rónán Ó Coisdealbha said.

“It was a thrilling encounter and made for compelling viewing with the outcome in the balance till the very last kick.”

Yeah, he’s a top player. Fair play to Mark Hughes, he’s after attracting some brilliant players to Stoke.
