DUBLIN CAME FROM behind with a storming second-half display at Parnell Park to end their relegation fears and keep their Allianz hurling league title hopes alive.
Free-taker David Treacy helped himself to 10 points while Mark Schutte and Danny Sutcliffe contributed nine important points between them.
The hosts did the majority of the damage after the break when they upped the ante and blew Galway away to ensure they avoided a relegation play-off with Kilkenny next weekend.
Galway are safe too despite their third defeat in five and both teams will now go forward to contest the quarter-finals. But it was a hugely significant win for Dublin, gaining a modicum of revenge for the Walsh Cup decider loss last month and extracting first blood ahead of their Leinster championship clash with Galway in May.
Galway edged the opening half by 2-9 to 0-13 and just about deserved their advantage.
Cathal Mannion netted their opening goal after four minutes when he followed up on his initial blocked shot with a strong drive. The strike separated the sides when Galway led 1-4 to 0-4 after 13 minutes.
But Dublin were back level twice in a tit-for-tat encounter before taking a two-point lead after 27 minutes.
Danny Sutcliffe, one of three late additions to the Dublin line-up, was influential in this period and hit three first-half points.
But Joe Canning’s 28th minute goal for Galway when he spun his man and shot to the roof of the net from 12 yards edged them two clear at the break.

Galway looked all set to kick on but surprisingly only shot one point from play in the second-half. That came from Canning who was their only scorer in the half with four frees also.
Dublin showed their desire to fight for their top flight place with six points after the restart to take control of the game.
Subs Ryan O’Dwyer and John McCaffrey had strong impacts and both got on the score sheet.
It wasn’t vintage from Dublin and the game was scrappy at times in the final quarter but they twice held four-point leads and Galway were forced to go for goals.
Canning had two attempts, one from a free, but both failed to hit the mark as Dublin held on for a hugely important win.
