AIDAN HARTE STRUCK a late point to grab a draw for Galway in today’s Leinster hurling quarter-final and send the sides to a replay next weekend.

Dublin sharpshooter David Treacy had missed the chance to put his side ahead by two points moments before from a free and then Harte availed of the space that opened up to grab the levelling score.

Both sides departed with regrets at not finishing out this game. Dublin had been in the ascendancy at various stages during the second-half but couldn’t put enough daylight between themselves and Galway.

The Tribesmen created a plethora of goalscoring chances but only hit the net once. Joseph Cooney’s strike was a fine score, a product of his alertness as he robbed Conal Keaney of possession before racing through the defence and finishing stylishly to the net. That pushed Galway ahead by 1-6 to 0-3 after Dublin had opened the game sluggishly.

Cyril Donnellan was outstanding in the early stages for Galway while the likes of Harte and Andy Smith also picked off neat points. Dublin bounced back well from the concession of that goal with Cuala duo Treacy and Schutte pointing the way.

Treacy finished with 0-11 and his freetaking was excellent throughout apart from that blip at the end. Schutte caused huge problems for Galway’s Johnny Coen in the first-half, bagging a pair of points, winning three frees that Treacy converted and also setting up Johnny McCaffrey for another point.

Galway could have bagged more goals in the first-half but Alan Nolan thwarted Flynn on one occasion and then Joe Canning whipped on a loose ball close to goal but saw the ball fly wide.

A late Jason Flynn point edged Galway in front by 1-9 to 0-11 at the break but Dublin came out in the second-half and quickly wiped out that advantage as they reeled off three points. By the team Treacy notched his 10th point in the 56th minute, Dublin were in front by 0-18 to 1-13.

However Galway hung in there with Cathal Mannion impressing in attack. Donnellan tied the teams with 11 minutes left at 0-18 to 1-15 before Treacy and Canning swapped frees.

A super point by Liam Rushe edged Dublin ahead before Treacy missed the chance to push them in front by two. Galway capitalised through Harte’s late point and they’ll now get a second chance next weekend.
