DUBLIN EDGED DERRY by 0-8 to 0-4 at Croke Park last night and while Jim Gavin’s side technically won the game, everyone who watched the encounter probably came away feeling like they had been defeated.
Dublin’s attack struggled to break down Derry’s blanket defence and the inclement weather ensured that the game was almost unwatchable for fans.
The first half was almost an all-time low for Gaelic Football, with Derry leading by just 0-3 to 0-2 and with only two scores kicked from play.
Understandably, the reaction to the opening 35 minutes was very negative and if you were following the game online you definitely had a lot more fun than the unfortunate few who travelled to Croke Park.

This is simply shocking stuff in Croke Park . . . and the petty and persistent fouling is disgusting. The whole thing is just awful to watch
One thing that was glossed over slightly as everyone rushed to slag off last night’s game is that once again Dublin struggled against an ultra-defensive team. It will be interesting to see if Jim Gavin can devise a way to outfox the blanket defence when the championship starts in a few weeks time.
In the meantime, here is a video of a good Gaelic Football match to wash away last night’s filth.
The reaction to Dublin v Derry was 100 times more entertaining than the game itself
