A ROCK SOLID defensive effort that refused to cough up a point until Montpellier were 22 points to the good, helped the Top 14 side on their way into the Challenge Cup final where they will meet Harlequins.

Bismarck du Plessis’ 60th minute try capped off Montpellier’s efforts, pushing the Springbok-laden side to the 22 – 0 advantage before Hallam Amos and Carl Meyer put a gloss on the scoreboard for the Dragons.

Du Plessis, playing alongside his brother Jannie in the front row, was one of three Montpellier scorers, adding to the points haul kicked by Demetri Catrakilis and Benoit Paillague who helped the southern French side open up the commanding 12  - 0 lead by half-time.

With Conor O’Shea’s Harlequins laying in wait for the Friday 13 May final in Lyon, Montpellier will hope that the relatively easily accessibility to the venue from the southern city can give them a leg up towards a European title.
