As it happened: Donegal v Tyrone, Dublin v Roscommon, All-Ireland SFC Super 8s

Who would join Dublin, Galway and Monaghan in this year’s All-Ireland SFC semi-finals? Catch up on the action in our minute-by-minute report.

After last night’s drama in Killarney and Salthill, we know three of this year’s All-Ireland semi-finalists — but who will fill the final spot, and progress to a meeting with Monaghan this day next week?

A win of any description in Ballybofey this afternoon, or even a draw, will suffice for Tyrone — but for Donegal, nothing less than victory will do.

Throw-in is at 3.30pm.

The other game in Group 2 — the meeting of Dublin and Roscommon in Croke Park — is as dead a rubber as dead rubbers come. We’ll keep you up to speed with any developments of note from HQ.

THROW IN: Joe McQuillan gets us underway in Ballybofey. Up and running in Croker too…

TEAM NEWS: Ronan McNamee starts as named for Tyrone, and Mark Bradley comes in in place of Hugh Pat McGeary.

For Donegal, Eoghan Ban Gallagher and Eamonn Doherty both start.

2 mins — Tyrone 0-1 Donegal 0-1: Tiernan McCann opens the scoring but a Michael Murphy free levels it just as quickly.

4 mins — Tyrone 0-2 Donegal 0-1: Mark Bradley nudges Tyrone into the lead.

BLACK CARD! Michael McKernan shown the line for Tyrone.

6 mins — Dublin 0-3 Roscommon 0-2: Nip and tuck in the opening stages; John Small nudges the Dubs back in front.

9 mins – Connor McAliskey has a seemingly straightforward free with the wind at his back but drops it short.

12 mins – Mattie Donnelly pops a pass that allows Cathal McShane to come on to it at pace. Neil McGee catches McShane high and it’s a soft free for Tyrone and a yellow card for McGee to boot.

13 mins — Tyrone 0-3 Donegal 0-1: McAliskey converts.

12 mins — Dublin 0-6 Roscommon 0-2: Cormac Costello has four of Dublin’s six points so far.

17 mins – Donegal work the ball into position for Jamie Brennan to shoot, but Colm Cavanagh closes him down and blocks it wide for a 45.

18 mins — Tyrone 0-3 Donegal 0-2: Murphy makes no mistake with the resulting 45.

19 mins — Tyrone 0-4 Donegal 0-2: Mattie Donnelly shows great strength to power through a few Donegal tackles and kicks a point off his left that glances off the far post before dropping over.

21 mins – McAliskey is heckled from the crowd as he lines up a free to put Tyrone three up, and duly pulls it wide. Still 0-4 to 0-2.

23 mins — Tyrone 0-4 Donegal 0-3: Ryan McHugh takes the ball on the run, shrugs off the chasing Conor Meyler, and curls over a point. That’ll lift Donegal.

24 mins — Tyrone 0-4 Donegal 0-4: Ciaran Thompson sidesteps Mattie Donnelly with a show and go and then curls the ball over the bar to level things up.

26 mins — Tyrone 0-5 Donegal 0-5: Colm Cavanagh pits Tyrone back in front but Jamie Brennan cancels it out. After a slow start, the hosts have found their feet.

26 mins — Dublin 1-10 Roscommon 0-5: Dublin are largely having it their own way against Roscommon. Their goal came courtesy of Paul Flynn — did he mean this?

29 mins – Niall Morgan comes up from the back and kicks a wide, much to the delight of the home support.

33 mins — Dublin 2-11 Roscommon 0-6: Dublin lead by 11 now towards the end of the first half in Roscommon. Here’s their second goal, scoring by Michael Darragh Macauley.

35 mins — Donegal 0-6 Tyrone 0-5: Jamie Brennan fists Donegal into the lead.

36 mins — GOAL FOR DONEGAL! Donegal 1-6 Tyrone 0-5: Ohhhh no. Tyrone try to take the kickout short and quickly, Ryan McHugh closes it down and gets a hand in to rob possession, and he sets up Michael Murphy who buries the chance. Donegal hadn’t been in front until a moment ago — now they lead by four.

35+5 mins — Donegal 1-6 Tyrone 0-6: Connor McAliskey kicks a free — Tyrone’s first point in 15 minutes — to send them in on something of a high.

HALF TIME: Donegal 1-6 Tyrone 0-6; Dublin 2-18 Roscommon 0-7.

SECOND HALF: Back underway in Croker — and Roscommon have struck early! Gary Patterson in the opening minute to make it 2-18 to 1-7.

And now we’re back underway in Ballybofey…

36 mins — Donegal 1-7 Tyrone 0-6: Patient build up by Donegal and Michael Langan gets Donegal on the board quickly.

Dublin now lead Donegal by 3-16 to 1-8. Here’s Eoghan O’Gara with Dublin’s third:

39 mins — Donegal 1-7 Tyrone 0-7: Peter Harte brings Tyrone back within three with a free.

40 mins — Donegal 1-9 Tyrone 0-9: Two points in quick succession for Odhran MacNiallais, matched just as quickly by two from Lee Brennan. Donegal still three up.

50 mins — GOAL FOR DUBLIN! Dublin 4-18 Roscommon 1-9: Eoghan O’Gara again! Dublin’s lead now stands at 18 with 20 minutes to play.

48 mins — Donegal 1-10 Tyrone 0-10: Every time Donegal get their nose in front, Tyrone respond. Jamie Brennan’s point is met in return by Padraig Hampsey. The game is starting to open up a bit now.

49 mins — OOOOOH SO CLOSE! Cathal McShane was a stud length away from getting a touch on that ball across the face of the Donegal goal to score.  We should be all square here really.

58 mins – The second half in Croke Park started a bit earlier; Roscommon scored through Donie Smith but they still trail by 4-22 to 2-10.

54 mins — Donegal 1-11 Tyrone 0-11: Lee Brennan’s free brings Donegal back to three points again. They haven’t been able to get closer than that.

55 mins — Donegal 1-11 Tyrone 0-12: And now they do! Tyrone force the turnover, work the ball into position, and Padraig Hampsey points. All set for a grandstand finish in Ballybofey.

A reminder: a win or a draw sends Tyrone through; Donegal have to win.

This is the moment that all Dublin fans have been waiting for. Just five months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury, Bernard Brogan is back in inter-county action:

58 mins — Donegal 1-11 Tyrone 0-13: One in it! Kieran McGeary brings Donegal back to within a point. There’ll be no nails left to chew in Ballybofey in a few minutes.

60 mins – Michael Murphy has a chance with a 45 and pulls it wide.

62 mins — GOAL FOR TYRONE! Tyrone 1-13 Donegal 1-11

Huge moment! Harry Loughran scores for Tyrone — and now they lead by two points! Donegal will need a huge effort now to turn this around in the last 10 minutes.

65 mins — Tyrone 1-13 Donegal 1-12: Eoghan Ban Gallagher cuts the gap to a single point.

65 mins — Tyrone 1-14 Donegal 1-12: Mattie Donnelly! Tyrone doing just enough to keep Donegal at arm’s length. The clock is ticking on Donegal’s championship…

68 mins — Tyrone 1-15 Donegal 1-12: Niall Morgan kicks a free and now Tyrone lead by three. They have one foot in the semi-finals!

FULL TIME: Dublin 4-24 Roscommon 2-16

35 mins — Tyrone 1-16 Donegal 1-12: Lee Brennan has had a huge impact on this game. He points again and Tyrone’s lead is now four.

Seven additional minutes to be played in Ballybofey but Donegal need a miracle.

70+2 mins — Tyrone 1-16 Donegal 1-13: Niall O’Donnell gets Donegal back within three, but they still need two scores at least to turn this one around. A draw is no good.

70+4 mins — Tyrone 1-17 Donegal 1-13: Ronan McNamee restores Tyrone’s four-point lead.

A lengthy break in play while Conor Meyler is being treated for an injury. He’s helped from the pitch.

70+9 mins – Mattie Donnelly strides forward and tries to seal it with a point but he shoots high and wide under pressure.

70+11 mins – There was a collision in front of the Tyrone goal and Joe McQuillan has awarded a free to Donegal. They’ll have a chance to drill it at goal… but even if it goes in, surely they won’t have time for another attack…

BLOCKED!

GOAL FOR TYRONE! Tyrone 2-17 Donegal 1-13

FULL TIME: Tyrone 2-17 Donegal 1-13

Tyrone will play Monaghan in the All-Ireland SFC semi-finals next Sunday, 13 August.

Tyrone rub salt in the Donegal wounds late on as they break with superior numbers and Declan McClure effectively walks the ball past Shaun Patton and into the Donegal net.

Ballybofey hasn’t always been the happiest hunting ground for Tyrone but there were no issues today. Their bench totally transformed a tight game in the final quarter — they scored 2-5 of Tyrone’s 2-17 total.

That’s all for now but we’ll have more reaction and analysis over the course of the weekend.
