DOMINIC RYAN’S ATTEMPTS to get his career back up and running have hit another setback with the news he has been stood down from rugby for a period of 12 weeks following a series of concussions.
The one-time capped Ireland international, who left Leinster after eight seasons in the summer, will not be considered for selection by Leicester Tigers after he sustained a head injury in the Premiership game against Northampton on 9 September.
The Tigers were heavily criticised for their handling of the situation which saw Ryan stay on the pitch despite laying face down on the turf following a heavy collision with George North.
Ryan was allowed play on without having to undergo a HIA and has made two appearances since, but it has now been decided it is in the flanker’s best interests to take time out of the game to recover.
BBC Leicester reports it is because of ‘repeated concussions’ suffered by Ryan.
Matt O’Connor confirmed the news in his press conference this afternoon ahead of the Tigers’ opening Champions Cup pool game against Racing 92 on Saturday. The English club face Munster in back-to-back games in December.
