Ratified! DJ Carey named as Kilkenny's new U21 hurling manager

The nine-time All-Star was ratified at a county board meeting last night.

KILKENNY GREAT DJ Carey has been named as the Cats’ U21 hurling manager.

The five-time senior All-Ireland champion takes over from former county team-mate Eddie Brennan, who guided the side to the Leinster U21 title with a comfortable win over Wexford in July.

They were beaten by Limerick in the All-Ireland final last month, with six points the difference in the end.

On top of his five Celtic Crosses, the Young Irelands (Gowran) clubman has nine All-Stars, 10 Leinster titles and four National League crowns to his name.

Carey has been managing the Carlow IT hurling team, and has previously been involved with management teams at his home club. The 47-year-old has also worked with Kilkenny development squads, and managed the Kilkenny U14 football team this year.

The appointment was ratified at a county board meeting last night. His selection committee will be appointed at a later date.
