THERE WAS DISAPPOINTMENT for Irish athlete Ciara Everard in the Women’s 800m heats at the Rio Olympics today.
The Kilkenny native finished last, struggling to keep up with the chasing pack and looking well below her best in today’s event.
The 26-year-old former UCD student finished with a time of 2.07.91, while Britain’s Lynsey Sharp (2.00.83) and Serbia’s Amela Terzic (2.00.99) secured the qualification spots, coming first and second respectively.
Everard has struggled with injury problems in the lead up to the Olympic Games, and speaking on RTÉ today, athletics pundit Jerry Kiernan said: “I know that she’s not fit… You’re totally exposed when you’re not 100%.”

There is always room for the bully boy when it comes to soccer in Ireland, and thats from grass roots right to the top,,Kids still togging out in containers while the CEO of IFA is on a huge salary with perks.
Why is it at most lge of Ireland clubs that the board are nearly always the ones to drop the team in the gutter either by non payment of wages or late payment , players offered late contracts or treated very poorly in a non professional way , and yet they expect players to be professional . A lot of snakes or back stabbers looking for to be respected ?
