It was his birthday but Dimitri Payet gave us the gift of this magnificent free-kick last night

France beat Russia 4-2 but the West Ham playmaker still isn’t assured of his place at this summer’s Euros.

HE’S BEEN WEST Ham’s player of the season and, last night, Dimitri Payet put himself right in the mix for Euro 2016 selection.

He was recalled to Didier Deschamps’ side for France’s 3-2 win over the Netherlands last weekend and impressed.

Last night, he went one further and conjured a goal against Russia.

And it wasn’t just any goal either.

Having entered the fray as a substitute midway through the second-half and scored with his first touch, whipping a superb free-kick to the top corner.

Later, he set up Kingsley Coman for France’s fourth.

To make it all the more special, it was his birthday too.
