Diego Costa banned for three matches and will miss Chelsea's clash with Man City

The top two meet at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

DIEGO COSTA WILL miss Chelsea’s top of the table clash with Manchester City as he begins a three-match ban for his stamp on Emre Can.

The striker’s ban for violent conduct was upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission, the FA confirmed on Friday afternoon.

Costa and Can clashed during the League Cup semi-final second leg and although Costa escaped without punishment at the time, video footage showed that he stood on the Liverpool player.

“The incident was not seen by the match officials but caught on video,” an FA statement read.

Costa chose to contest the charge but his appeal was dismissed and he will miss Saturday evening’s meeting with second-placed City as well as the trip to Aston Villa and a home fixture against Everton on 11 February.

Match of the Day is here to stay (and it’s getting a Brucie bonus midweek show)

When exactly does the January transfer window close in Europe’s top leagues?
