'I'm game to fight' - Nate Diaz fancies welcoming McGregor to lightweight

Diaz would like the fight if the money is right.

A MOVE TO the lightweight division is likely to be in Conor McGregor’s future, and former Ultimate Fighting Championship title contender Nate Diaz is interested in meeting him there.

McGregor’s next task is a clash with Jose Aldo for the UFC’s featherweight belt at UFC 189 in Las Vegas on 11 July, an event which will also feature Diaz’s return to action in a bout against Matt Brown.

However, McGregor has often spoken of his desire to eventually move back up to 155lbs by competing at lightweight again — a division in which he had plenty of success earlier in his career.

The Dubliner and reigning UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos have already traded insults, and although he clearly has plenty of respect for McGregor, Nate Diaz is certainly interested in facing him in the octagon.

The controversial Californian told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour: “Conor McGregor keeps talking about coming up and fighting dos Anjos. I don’t know what that’s going to do for him. So if these guys want some real fights, then they can call and work it out, or if I can figure it out, I’m game to fight if the money is going to be worth it.”

Diaz, whose older brother Nick is also a former UFC title contender, was beaten by Benson Henderson in a bout for the UFC’s lightweight strap in 2012. The 29-year-old hasn’t fought since losing to current champion dos Anjos last December.

As is generally the case when it comes to the Diaz brothers, the full interview is worth checking out. You can do so here on MMAFighting.com.
