IRELAND’S DENISE WALSH has reached the final of the European Rowing Championships in Racice, Czech Republic today.

Walsh secured a time of 7:42.53, finishing second behind Patricia Merz of Switzerland.

The Skibbereen rower is now set to compete in the final of the competition on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s Olympic silver medallists Gary and Paul O’Donovan made tomorrow’s lightweight men’s double sculls final.

After their success in the repechage yesterday, the O’Donovans finished second in today’s semi-final, pipping German pair Jason Osborne and Lucas Schaefer to the runners-up spot, while France’s Pierre Houin and Jerome Azou, who beat the Irish stars to gold at the Olympics last August, came first.
