Former Ireland international hooker Bernard Jackman has moved into the position of head coach at the Isère-based club this season, while ex-Munster halfback Mike Prendergast has been promoted to the role of backs coach.
Coulson provides the latest Irish link, having impressed the Grenoble management during his eight appearances for Mike Ruddock’s Ireland U20s side this year in the Six Nations and Junior World Championship campaigns.
The Dublin native came through Leinster’s underage teams and impressed in the Leinster Schools Senior Cup, appearing in the 2012 final as a fifth year and helping a Dan Leavy-captained Michael’s to victory over Clongowes.
Coulson has played club rugby with Lansdowne in Dublin, while he secured a scholarship to Carlow IT after leaving school. His rugby career now takes him to France, where the 108kg prop will look to progress in Grenoble’s formation.
Young Munster’s Shane O’Leary made a similar switch to FCG last season and played in the Amlin Challenge Cup five times, before securing a contract with Connacht for the 2014/15 season.
