Ulster U21 and minor winning boss confirms he's in the running for the Donegal job

Declan Bonner previously managed the county from 1997 to 2000.

DECLAN BONNER HAS confirmed he’s in the race to be appointed as the Donegal senior football manager.

Donegal Daily reports that Bonner is interested in replacing Rory Gallagher in the hot-seat having been nominated by several clubs in the county.

The Lettermacaward native led Donegal to an Ulster minor title in 2014 before lifting the provincial U21 crown with the same crop of players earlier this year.

“After a couple of weeks of discussions with my family and with other people, I’ve decided to allow my name go in,” he told Donegal Daily.

“It wasn’t a decision that I made lightly. It wasn’t one that I thought I would have to make at this stage.

“A lot of people have been asking me what my plans are but, as and from this evening, I will definitely be going forward.”

Bonner, who was previously in charge of the county between 1997 and 2000, added that he has a backroom team in place.
