DCU WILL BE without captain and Galway senior Tom Flynn along with vice-captain and Dublin senior Davy Byrne for today’s Sigerson Cup final.
While opponents UCC have injury concerns of their own with Cork senior Ian Maguire and Kerry senior Paul Geaney having both missed out on yesterday’s semi-final win over IT Carlow.

DCU manager Niall Moyna admitted that they are resigned to being without Flynn and Byrne as they seek to claim a third title in six years after previous successes in 2010 and 2012. Both players watched on as they won yesterday’s semi-final against UCD with Flynn on crutches at the Mardyke venue.
“That’s our captain and vice-captain and they’re both out,” admitted Moyna. “Big loss, not just for football. They’re two massive leaders on the field. In that 20 minutes yesterday, that’s when you really miss Tom and Davy. Tom got hurt against (St) Mary’s and Davy had his appendix removed that night.”
UCC lined out without Maguire and Geaney for a second successive game after both players had missed last week’s quarter-final victory over IT Sligo due to injury. Maguire was midfield on last year’s Sigerson winning side while Geaney captained that triumphant UCC team.
UCC boss Billy Morgan rates Maguire’s chances of playing as slim but is more hopeful about Geaney’s potential availability.
“Ian, I’d say, (has) very little chance. Paul, we would have brought him on today if things weren’t going according to plan. He’s not 100% but hopefully today he’ll be much better.”
