'Family is my priority' - The world's number one golfer may also skip the Olympics

Jason Day says he’s still undecided.

JASON DAY IS unsure of whether he will play in the Rio Olympics and says he understands Rory McIlroy’s decision to pull out of the Games.

Four-time major champion McIlroy confirmed on Wednesday he will not travel to Brazil in August due to concerns over the Zika virus, which has been linked to birth defects.

World number one Day, who has two young children, is staying non-committal over his participation, but stated: “Family for me is priority number one. I’ve got to make sure they’re happy, then probably I’ll make the decision.”

McIlroy has followed the likes of Marc Leishman, Vijay Singh and Adam Scott in withdrawing from the first Olympic golf tournament in 112 years.

Day added: “It’s a tough one, going from trying to represent your country and trying to win a gold medal but also understanding that it’s a life decision that you have to make just in case there’s a small percentage that it [contracting Zika] will happen.

“He is looking at getting married soon, and obviously looking to start a family. I’m past that, but also looking to have some more babies.”
