THE HIGHLIGHTS HAVE come thick and fast over the opening days of the 2012 Paralympics but this superb shot by GB table tennis player David Wetherill is surely among the most impressive.
The 22-year-old, ranked number five in the world, trailed Germany’s Thomasz Kusiak by two games to one when he wowed the ExCeL Arena crowd with this diving forehand winner.
Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save the match as Wetherill lost 3-1.
“Very disappointed but I gave it everything,” he tweeted afterwards. “I’ll be a better player for that experience. Amazing. Can’t thank u all enough.”
And he joked: “At least I might get a few YouTube hits. Superman diving forehand winner? I practice that I’ll have you know.
“I say ‘may never play a shot like it ever again’. But knowing me, I probably will.”
Brilliant!!!
Now that was class…
Commitment
I watch a lot of table tennis & that was a brilliant shot! Wd
Now that’s someone who really wants to win gold. Hope he gets it.
Love it!
brilliant
Wow. I dislocated my eye just looking at it.
Comment of the week!
Great shot. Doesn’t the German guy gave a name almost similar to Man Utd’s former 2nd choice keeper?
Not to be confused with David Weatherall
Pretty good, but not as inspirational and awesome as Gangnam Style – the K-Pop video linked after this clip….
