'I don't think Man United should become a sacking club' - Moyes backs LVG

David Moyes says Man United should stand by current boss Louis van Gaal.

DAVID MOYES HAS urged Manchester United’s hierarchy to place faith in Louis van Gaal and not sack the Dutch manager despite another season of mediocrity.

Moyes was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford after just 10 months ago in charge and United still find themselves in a similar state of disarray two years on from the Scot’s departure.

But he believes Ed Woodward and the board should refrain from sacking another manager.

“I don’t think Manchester United should become a sacking club,” he said during an appearance on BBC yesterday.

“I was disappointed when I lost my job after 10 months, but we would think Manchester United have always stood for much greater things than sacking their managers regularly. So, I don’t think they should (sack him).”

Van Gaal has come under increasing pressure after his team’s abject season plunged to a new low last week with an ignominious Europa League defeat to FC Midtjylland.

Fans have turned on the manager and reports suggest Jose Mourinho has already agreed to take over the position in the summer.

“Everybody’s talking about the midweek performance, they’ve got a second leg, they can win the second leg and get through, they’ve got Shrewsbury in the Cup and they can get through in the Cup,” Moyes continued.

“He’s still in the cup competitions, so I would expect him to win the Europa League game and I think we’d all expect them to beat Shrewsbury.”
