SUNDERLAND MANAGER DAVID Moyes has apologised to Vicki Sparks after telling the BBC reporter she “might get a slap.”
Moyes was unhappy with Sparks’ line of questioning following Sunderland’s 0-0 draw with Burnley last month and made the comments when he thought she had stopped recording their interview.
The former Manchester United manager was furious following a question about whether the presence of Sunderland owner Ellis Short at the game meant his job with the Black Cats was under threat.
“It was getting a wee bit naughty at the end there so just watch yourself,” Moyes said to Sparks after he believed she had stopped recording.

“You still might get a slap even though you’re a woman. Careful the next time you come in.”
However, the threat was picked up by her recording equipment and though Sparks herself did not initiate a complaint, her BBC bosses were reported to be furious when they heard the audio.
“Mr Moyes has apologised to our reporter and she has accepted his apology”.
In his press conference today, Moyes said:
“It was in the heat of the moment, and I deeply regret the comments that I made. It’s certainly not who I am.”
He also added that he was disappointed with himself but hinted he will not face any further discipline over the incident as he informed Short of what happened two weeks ago.
With just nine games remaining, Sunderland are rooted at the foot of the Premier League table and will almost certainly be playing Championship football next season.
