DAVID MCMILLAN IS confident Dundalk can keep their Champions League campaign alive in Norway next week by scoring a crucial away goal after last night’s first leg at Oriel Park.
The striker became the League of Ireland’s all-time leading scorer in the European Cup when he opened the scoring for Stephen Kenny’s side against Rosenborg, but Tore Reginiussen’s equaliser means the Lilywhites are up against it to progress.
McMillan’s first-half strike, his seventh in the Champions League, means only Roy Keane (15) is ahead of him in the Irish goalscoring charts.

“Delighted to score again for the club in Europe. I thought we started the game really well and deservedly went ahead but it was unfortunate to concede the goal just before half-time,” he said afterwards.
“I think we were by far the better team and we head over to Norway next week confident we can get a result.
“Sometimes it’s difficult when you’re not playing against these guys every week so you’ve got to do as much as you can around the video analysis. It’s hard to really know the quality until you get out on the pitch.”
McMillan added that Dundalk can take confidence from last year’s exploits in Europe as they look ahead to Wednesday’s second leg at the Lerkendal Stadion.
“I think we matched them in every department so we’re disappointed not to have a lead heading to Norway.
“We know they will be stronger at home but we’ve got to believe that we can get the job done.
“We’ve scored in a lot of away games in Europe last year so I don’t think it is a problem for us. It’s looks like a nice place to play football so we’ll enjoy the opportunity and get the job done.”
