David Luiz vows to abstain from sex until marriage after baptism in team-mate's pool

The Brazilian defender had a pool party of a different kind over the weekend.

DAVID LUIZ HAS never been afraid to play down his strong Christian beliefs and the Brazilian defender has previously said his faith ‘gives him strength and inspiration to go out and perform and improve as a player’.

Luiz has strong links with a non-profit, evangelical movement in Brazil and has now vowed to abstain from sex until he gets married after being baptised in team-mate Maxwell’s swimming pool.

“I have chosen to wait,” he wrote on Instagram.

The 28-year-old invited a few of his friends from the Pentecostal Hillsong Church in Paris around to Maxwell’s plush house for the ceremony.

He then quoted a bible verse on the social media platform.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV).”

“How wonderful to live with you Lord, thank You for loving me so much and taking care of me!,”

Luiz follows in the footsteps of Kaka, who he says is a role model, by remaining a virgin until wedlock.

He met his long-term girlfriend Sara Madeira when they were both still in their teens.
