5-time hurling winner leading Kilkenny's quest for All-Ireland football glory

David Herity is a key man for the Kilkenny junior footballers.

IT MAY HAVE escaped your attention but a former All-Ireland winning Kilkenny hurler won a major football medal with the county recently.

David Herity called time on his senior intercounty hurling career with the Cats following last year’s All-Ireland win.

During seven seasons on the panel, goalkeeper Herity tasted Liam MacCarthy Cup success five times.

But the Dunnamaggin clubman left the hurley to one side to focus on Kilkenny’s quest for football glory in the British junior championship.

And following victories over Gloucestershire, Lancashire and Gloucestershire again, Kilkenny beat Scotland in the British decider to claim silverware last month.

On Saturday, they face Connacht champions Mayo in the All-Ireland junior football semi-final in Tullamore.

The game has a 2pm throw-in at O’Connor Park.
