David de Gea's girlfriend agrees Manchester is 'uglier than the back of a fridge'

Edurne Garcia is not a fan of the city, it seems.

REAL MADRID HAVE been put on alert after David de Gea’s girlfriend agreed with Manchester being “uglier than the back of a fridge”.

The goalkeeper, who has been Manchester United’s undisputed star this season, is reported to be top of the European champions’ transfer targets this summer as they eye a long-term replacement for current No.1 Iker Casillas.

De Gea’s partner Edurne Garcia – who is Spain’s 2015 entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest – has added fuel to the fire ahead of the summer transfer window by criticising life in the English city and suggesting she’d be happier in her homeland.

“I’ve been told Manchester is uglier than the back of a fridge,” Pablo Motos, host of entertainment show El Hormiguero, put to her this week.

The 29-year-old agreed, adding: “It’s not very nice, that’s for sure. You have to hunt out specific places – the nice places.

“But even then Spain is nicer. The reason I like it is because David’s there. With him being there, everything is wonderful.”

Manchester councillor Pat Karney has hit back, however, with a comical twist to the comparison of the city to a household appliance and offered to give the Spanish singer a tour to prove her wrong.

“The only thing Manchester has in common with a fridge is that it’s really cool,” he told Manchester Evening News. “But Mancunians are renowned as some of the warmest people you could ever wish to meet.

“We attract millions of visitors a year who flock here for our nightlife and celebrations, our world-class cultural attractions, our shopping and of course our football.

“I’m not sure how much of the city Miss Garcia has seen, but we’d be delighted to take the couple on a tour and show them what they’re missing.”
