No surprises as sensational David Clifford named Minor Footballer of the Year

Cork’s Brian Turnbull collected the Minor Hurler of the Year prize.

KERRY’S TEENAGE SUPERSTAR David Clifford capped an unforgettable season on Saturday as he was named Electric Ireland Minor Star Footballer of the Year.

Clifford lit up the minor championship with a series of sensational displays as the Kingdom’s youngsters marched to an All-Ireland four-in-a-row.

After scoring 1-10 in the semi-final victory over Cavan, the Fossa forward was an undisputed man of the match as he rattled in an unprecedented 4-4 against Derry in the All-Ireland final.

And in a huge boost to Kerry’s senior prospects, Clifford, 18, confirmed that he will be staying at home next season rather than trying to pursue a professional AFL career in Australia.

Cork corner-forward Brian Turnbull won the Minor Star Hurler of the Year award at the event in Croke Park.

Turnbull’s tally of 1-51 was instrumental in leading Cork to the All-Ireland final, but his 1-7 against Galway in the decider was not enough to halt the Tribesmen and deny them the first part of their historic double.

Kerry’s Jack O’Connor was presented with the Minor Star Special Merit Award for his services to the underage game in his native county.
