Daryl Horgan came off the bench to set up the winner for Preston last night

The Galway-born winger’s cross was headed home by Callum Robinson.

AFTER A REALLY encouraging start to life at Preston North End, Daryl Horgan has had to be patient to get opportunities recently.

The winger joined from Dundalk along with Lilywhites team-mate Andy Boyle in December 2016 and took to the Championship like a duck to water with 19 appearances, two goals and three assists in the second half of last season.

However, with Simon Grayson leaving for Sunderland and Alex Neill coming in as his replacement over the summer, the Galway man had been limited to just two substitute cameos in the league before last night.

With the score level at 1-1 at the KCOM Stadium, Horgan replaced Tom Barkhuizen on 78 minutes and came up with the goods 10 minutes later as his direct run and cross was diverted into an empty net by Callum Robinson.

Let’s hope Horgan, who was named in Ireland’s squad for the Moldova and Wales qualifiers yesterday, can kick on from here.

Boyle, meanwhile, has made just one appearance for Preston this term, which was in the EFL Cup defeat to Accrington Stanley.

(Horgan’s assist is 1:36 in)
